How to Request Your Alabama Driving Records
The Alabama Department of Public Safety (DPS) will provide a copy of your Alabama driving records to anyone who requests a copy. You can get a copy, as well as insurance companies and prospective employers when needed. To request a copy of the Alabama driving records, a fee is charged, and some documents are necessary.
The Alabama driving records contain your driving history for the past three years. If your obtained points from any traffic violation, it would be there. If your license were suspended, revoked, or canceled, it would be there.
A driving abstract will contain your entire driving history. Certified and non-certified copies are available to purchase. Before you request a copy, be specific about the type you need.
Types of Alabama Driving Records
The DPS will provide a driving record in three forms. Request the type you will need and pay the fee. You can request:
- 3-year driving record
- It will contain the last three years of your driving record
- Only you can request a copy
- Driver abstract
- Contains your full driving history
- Only you can request a copy
- Motor vehicle record (MVR)
- Contains your personal information and Alabama driving history
- Insurance companies and prospective employers request it
Getting a copy of any type, it can be done in person, online, or by mail.

If you fall into one of these categories, you can request another person’s driving records online, in person, or by mail. Complete the Request for Motor Vehicle Record and:
- Provide your personal information and mailing address
- Initial and authorized use of the request
- Check or money order
Make check payable to “The Alabama Department of Public Safety.”

If you place an order online, the copy will not be certified.
Requesting Your Alabama Driving Records
You can request a copy of your Alabama driving records. You have the option between the 3-year driving record or the driver abstract. If you apply online, your copy will not be certified. You can only request certified copies in person.
To request a copy; you must complete the request form and submit the necessary documents. Also, pay the appropriate fees that apply to the type your request. If you apply by mail, submit the documents with your check or money order to the above mailing address. Make the check or money order payable to “The Alabama Department of Public Safety.” Wait at least ten days to receive your document.
