How to Request Your Washington Driving Records?

Your Washington driving records will contain information about your driving for the last three years. If you commit and found guilty of a violation or more, it will be on your driving record. Also, if your Washington driver’s license was suspended or revoked, it will be on your driving record. So, any violations you commit in the last three years and points accumulated because of the citations will be on the driving record.

Washington Driving Records

The Washington Department of License (DOL) monitors your driving records and will suspend your license if necessary. If you or someone else would like a copy of Washington driving records, the DOL offers five types of driving records. The different types are:

  • Completed driving records
    • Used for official purposes
    • Contain your entire Washington driving records
  • 3-year driving record abstracts
    • Used by insurance companies
    • Contain the last three years of your driving history
  • Employment driving records
    • Used by employers for a background check
    • Contain your entire Washington driving records
  • Volunteer driving records
    • Used by volunteer organizations to screen volunteer drivers
  • School bus driver records
    • Used by schools for school bus driver pre-employment screenings

Getting Your Washington Driving Records

You can get a copy of your Washington driving records online, by mail, or in person. You can order your completed driving records or a 3-year driving abstract. The copy you order can be an official or unofficial one.

Order in Person

To get a copy in person, you can visit the nearest DOL office and complete the Driving Request application, Form DR-500-009.  Provide your Washington driver’s license or another form of ID and pay the fee. You will have your copy right away.

By Mail

To get a copy of your Washington driving records, you must complete the Driving Request application. Pay the fee, and you will receive it in two weeks. Mail your application to:

Create an account at the Washington DOL website and provide the following:

  • Your driver’s license number
  • Your SSN
  • Driving record type
  • Pay fee by credit or debit card

Washington Driving Records Fees & Payment Options

The fee for a driving record is $13. The Wash9ington DOL will accept payments in:

  • Cash
  • Check
  • Credit or debit card

Employers, Insurance Providers, & Government Agencies

To order someone’s Washington driving records, you must belong to one of these groups:

  • Employers performing pre-employment screenings or background checks
  • Insurance company
  • Law enforcement or government agency
  • Attorney
  • Volunteer organization
  • School district
  • State college or university

To get a copy, you can submit the necessary information by mail or in person. To receive a copy, you must:

  • Complete the Driving Record Request Form
    • Include your personal information
    • The driver’s name, license number, and DOB
    • Type of record you need
  • A letter with the company letterhead that includes the reason for your request and relationship to the driver
  • Pay fee
