Nevada Duplicate Title: How to Order a Replacement?

The front end of a vintage car

Has something happened to your vehicle’s title? Did it become lost, damaged, or stolen? If so, you’ll want to complete the Nevada duplicate title process!

There’s no telling what can happen to your title during ownership.

If you ever plan to transfer ownership, you’ll want to get the title in order. This is your legal document showing you have ownership of the vehicle. Without it, you can’t sell, donate, or complete your vehicle registration or renewals – so make sure it’s safe!

How to Get a Duplicate Nevada Title?

You can replace your title in person at a local Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles office/location. Or process the paperwork and submit it by mail. You’ll receive your new title from the Carson City office.

You’ll need to file the Application for Duplicate Nevada Certificate of Title (VP012).

You will then:

  • Get the application notarized before submission
  • Talk with your lien holder if making a request on their behalf
  • Submit a Lien Release (VP186) if you’ve satisfied the lien before submission

You will pay $21 when you file this document to get your duplicate Nevada vehicle title.

Other items you may need:

  • Driver’s license or ID card
  • License plate number
  • Vehicle’s VIN, make, model, and year
  • Vehicle’s registration proof of ownership
  • Any lien details and power of attorney (if applicable)

While these items aren’t entirely necessary, you may want to have them on hand in case you need to process other items at the DMV. These documents also prove handy if you’re making corrections.

Replacing/Duplicates In-Person

Replacing a title in person requires you to:

  1. Locate your local NV DMV
  2. Show proof of ID
  3. Show proof of vehicle ownership
  4. Submit your form
  5. Pay the application and filing fee

Your Nevada title replacement request is processed on location though it may take until the following day to get it. Make sure your license information is correct so they don’t accidentally send your forms to a different address!

Replacing/Duplicates by Mail

Rather not go to the DMV and, instead, do the process by mail?

You will:

  • Complete the paperwork (listed above)
  • Include the damaged title (if replaced)
  • Include a check or money order for fees

These documents go to:

Nevada DMV

555 Wright Way

Carson City, NV 89711

Your new title should arrive by mail in about a week or two. Again, make sure they have the right information on file when you’re submitting this information.

You’re Done!

The title replacement process doesn’t take long (as you can see).

If you need it faster: Submit a VP265 expedited processing form an $20 per title & $20 for shipping.

This is something you don’t want to delay as you never know when you may need to show your title. Try to get your duplicate asap to avoid any issues – and so you can keep showing ownership of the vehicle.
